My Reviews

A traditional kid's monster book in the vein of Where the Wild Things Are

Zappa creates a fictional monster world that feels similar to the one in Where the Wild Things Are but a little darker. Is an easy read that would probably be enjoyable for children but is not a book club selection. At times it does feel as though the author is trying too hard to be creative rather than letting the story tell itself. The book is a visual treat, however, with wonderful graphics and pictures throughout.

Sula by Toni Morrison

Graphic, Gloomy, Dramatic
Captivating story of friendship and mother daughter bonds.

Written in the poetic voice that is Morrison's trademark, this is a wonderful story of two friends and thier journeys through life. Intertwined is an examination of the complexity of mother daughter relationships. A wonderful selection for any women's book club!

Moon Tide : A Novel by Dawn Clifton Tripp

Bland story was unpopular with our club

I would not recommend this book - The characters are left undeveloped, the author spends 250 of the 270 pages building up to a storm that is then covered in 10-15 pages and the book ends abruptly. I never felt a connection to any characters. If this had not been a book club selection I would never have read past page 50.
