The book is historical fiction. It takes place in the 1800's, about 10 years before the civil war. The main character is a slave woman who became her master's mistress at a young age. We all agreed that the book was a good one. We had a great discussion at our club meeting.
My book club read this and we really enjoyed it. Even though it is fiction, it really brought into focus what slave life might have been like. The book was well written and the characters were ones that you cared about.
This was a great read. Our book club really enjoyed it. It was a little too long, but there was so much to this book that we were able to have a great discussion. We highly recommend it.
