My Reviews
I liked it very much for about for the first 2/3 of the book, but then it took a very dark turn that I didn't like. I will probably read the next two books, however, because the character of Salander is very intriguing.
I had to stop reading for a while when I got to that awful beach scene, but I did pick it back up and finish, but ultimately it was unsatisfying, and I don't know that I liked any of the characters besides Little Bee. Definitely makes you think and wonder how you would react yourself in those circumstances....
Our book club read this book, and the majority of the women, who are closer to the WWII era than I, liked the book. I am interested in Guernsey Island and its wartime occupation and for that reason I recommend the book, but the story was not compelling and the heroine did not impress me as very real or memorable. Some readers may not care for the epistolary format of the book.
