My Reviews
I am a young mother--with very little time to read--and I absolutely zipped through this book. I could not put it down. Emmy Everett, the book's narrator, is like no other that I've found in contemporary fiction. She is very funny and wise and interesting. I found myself, dog-earing passage after passage, planning to read them aloud during our book club discussion. I wasn't the only one! We all had passages we wanted to read out loud and share. And our discussion that night was maybe the best one we've ever had. This book gets an "A+". It's a must read!
From page 1, I was absolutely in love with this novel about two women who find themselves on different ends of marriage--one trying to start her life with her new fiance, one trying to leave her marriage gracefully (a marriage she doesn't want to end.) The book is wise and funny and candid and beautiful. READ IT. it is great.
this true story is beautiful and heartbreaking and ultimately empowering. A wonderful book that makes for great conversation.
beautiful book!
I LOVED THE FIRST HUSBAND. It is a moving story about a travel writer who learns to stop looking outside of herself to figure out what she needs most.
It isn't often you find a book that can literally make you laugh out loud and cry, all at once. The characters are entirely lovable. And Dave had me thinking about my own life - and feeling happy with my choices.
Laura Dave's writing simply is unmatched. There is a wisdom and beauty to how she writes about love and family. And the fact that this novel is a page turner seems like the ultimate added bonus. I read this book in one sitting - couldn't put it down.
Laura came and talked with my book club when her last novel was released. And she is just like her writing: open, engaging, smart.
Every summer is a "Laura Dave" summer and I can't wait for next summer already!
