My Reviews
This book is a quick and easy read. Not what you would call thought provoking. While reading it, I was reminded of the Sidney Sheldon books that I read as a teen. Some parts were humorous. Hard to feel empathy or identify with any of these "poor" rich and powerful women! Good for a vacation read. Thanks for the free copy!
The fact that this is science fiction is secondary. Looking at faith, love, exploration and how we approach others different from ourselves lends itself well for a discussion. You'll be thinking and talking about this long after your meeting!
Capote did not coat his odd/quirky characters in saccharine. His ability for storytelling carries you through to the end. Our group read the book and then watched the movie. So glad I read the book first. Instead of seeing Holly as the "it girl of flirt", her ability to love and let go is what affected those around her the most. The additional stories are lovely. I keep few books and reread fewer. This one makes the cut!
What is your name? Where are you from? Why are you here? Where is your home?
Fairly provoking questions depending on how they are delivered. This book asks these questions of the characters and ourselves. Interesting characters with human stories that you can't help but care about.
