Julia Child, what a character! Passion, humor, cooking, and France. How could you not enjoy that?
This story sheds yet another light upon a tragic time in history. The book is well written and paints a vivid picture of the lives of those who had to endure the hardships thrust upon them and their loved ones through horrible acts hatred and prejudice.
Slow start. Stick with it though; it is worth it. The sexual abuse was a bit disturbing, but necessary to the story... Couldn't put it down, had to finish so I could watch the movie (subtitled). Now.. on to The Girl Who Played With Fire!
For anyone that has been to Siena, or wandered through the countryside and other Medieval towns of Tuscany... the story comes to life. Romance, good vs evil, generations-old wars between and within families, and the beauty of the setting are all here.
