Archimedes' Revenge

I loved this book. I didn't know before reading the book anything that was discussed in its pages. The author, Paul Hoffman, does a fantastic job of introducing new topics, while still providing in depth information on the matter. I felt also that the topics were not exhaustive to the point of being boring, but that they were switched up often enough to maintain a constant desire to read more.

I did not give this book a perfect 5 because some of the topics are outdated, especially with regards to computers.

Overall I would suggest this book to anyone who likes history, engineering, or mathematics in that order.

Men of Mathematics

I enjoyed reading this book. E.T. Bell focuses on the character and story of each person who contributed greatly to the field of Mathematics. The descriptions were for the most part interesting and informative.

I struggled a little with the overall word usage in the book. Also, there were times while reading that I had to skip ahead because the same page put me to sleep more than once.

Overall I enjoyed the read, but would have liked to read more about their specific contributions than the lifestyles each person lived. That not being the author's purpose in writing the piece, I evaluated this book on the first two paragraphs of this comment giving it an overall 4 out of 5 stars.

The Lost Years of Merlin

I absolutely loved this series. There are five books in the series all together: The Lost Years of Merlin, The Seven Songs of Merlin, The Fires of Merlin, The Mirror of Merlin, and The Wings of Merlin. I have read the series about six times now.

The author, T.A. Barron, uses basic yet very descriptive words that paint a picture so vivid it becomes reality for the reader. I first read this as a middle school student, perhaps that enhanced my imagination for reading this series.

It may sound cliche, but the only thing I didn't like about the series is after reading all five books I wanted to read more. The story line had finished and everything in the story had been resolved, but I wanted to read more of the series.

I recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy, wizardry, or heroic tales. The younger is probably the better:)
