My Reviews
Our club agreed that this wasn't the most dramatic or exciting book but we all liked it. It was inspiring and opened up a window into a different culture and the impact of poverty that was enlightning.
Our club very much enjoyed this book. We found it to be engaging and well written. The multiple narratives keep the book from getting boring while showing the various perspectives. It also has a lot of great discussion material.
Our book club found this book to be fairly interesting discussion material and most felt the historical content was worthwile. Overall most did not especially like the book for it's gloomy atmosphere and anti-Christian bias. We also felt that the author put too many of her modern and secular viewpoints into a historical context where they did not belong.
While the story is interesting and inspring we felt the book dragged on too long and was almost like a promotional book for his organization. The recent allegations of fabrications added doubts about the books credibility. His experiences after 9/11 and on "the war on terror" were insightful.
We thought this book was well written and a good story. Not specifically Christian it deals with good and evil on a cosmic level. Has some interesting concepts on time.
