The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

We really enjoyed this book. Being able to compare how dogs are trained to real life was amazing. It was complicated, but kept your interest. There was a sense of magic in the midst of the reality that made it a great escape. Two thumbs up.

The Three Miss Margarets

We really liked this book. The book tells the oddly crossed lives of four women ranging from age 30 to 80. It crossed through time allowing for great discussion. Our group's average age is 70, so they were able to identify to the vast time periods depicted in the book. Also, without spoiling the plot, their reactions to several "controversial" topics discussed in the book helped to facilitate a great meeting. Do note: some explicit scenes as well as foul language are in the book... that was not well recieved in our group.

Secret Life of Bees

This made for a great read. We are a South Carolina based club, so the "locality" of the book hit close to home. Also, our group is older (avg. age 70) so the time period and some of the "controversial" topics made for great discussion in our group because they could related to the events that took place.

Great Read!

Our group LOVED this book. We found the in depth depiction of another culture very fascinating; while at the same time being able to relate to the universal human spirit. Our group is essentially around the same age as the main character. As a historical fiction, our group was able to remember the same events talked about in the book and then discuss how different/similar their reactions were to the main charachter. Great choice!

I wanna be a sister!!!

This book was very well recieved by our book club. Our members were able to related to so many aspects: the hardships of women during that time, giving up dreams to conform to society, the awkwardness of living in a paradigm shift. It was well written and easy to get hooked into. A great book for groups!

Loved this book!

This was such a fantastic book to read. Descriptive without being boring, captivating and simply beautiful. Our group really enjoyed it. There were a few parts that we found to be slightly "far-fetched", but they didn't ruin the experience. The group really enjoyed discussing the historical accuracy of the book as it intertwined with the ficitonal love story. An overall great read.
