My Reviews
The Mayor of Casterbridge is just okay. It was somewhat difficult to read, but the real problem was that it just didn't have any characters that I could relate to or care about. I had to discipline myself to read it instead of looking forward to the next time I had a few minutes to sneak away.
I really enjoyed this book. It's an easy read even with the letter format. You will care about the characters and feel connected to the story. I also really liked learning about WWII from a completely different perspective. It made it very real to me. This is a great book for discussion.
This is an awesome book that makes you think and evaluate what you think about our culture and how easily this could become reality. It is interesting and holds your attention. The religious references are subtle, but see if you find them when they talk about fighting the enemy. I found it to be a fascinating read.
This is just an okay book. It moves you and takes you on an emotional journey while you read it, but once your done and think back on it, the most poignent relationship in the book is the Father/Son relationship which is unexpected, not the romantic relationship which was what I expected. It does make you think about really loving someone and what that means, which lead our group to a pretty good discussion, but I wouldn't say that this book had us hooked. It's fluff, but sometimes groups need a break from deep-- if you do, this is a good book for that.
