The Chili Queen: A Novel by Sandra Dallas

Fun, Interesting, Adventurous
Life may have been hard on Addie French, but when she meets friendless Emma Roby on a train, all her protective instincts emerge. With Dallas's trademark humor, charm, and pathos, "The Chili Queen" wi

I really enjoyed this book, not as much as "Persian Pickle Club," but I enjoyed her story telling. Dallas is very good at developing her characters and keeping the readers interest. I especially liked the twists and turns in the last half of the book.

However, not everyone in the club liked the book as I did, it made for good discussion. I would recommend this book for a summer read, it's short, sweet, and easy to read.

Great story..

I thought this was a great book club selection because the book tackles so many different issues. It's a beautiful story and really keeps you engaged. Great book.

Beautiful, Dramatic
Not a must read.

The description written for the book was very misleading. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Great read. Very funny yet riveting. Any dog lover would enjoy this.

Gary Paulson has written such great fiction, but this memoir of his Iditarod experience is by far my favorite book of his. I didn't know very much about dog racing, but I now have such a great respect for the dogs and crazy people that run this race. Quick read, hard to put down, and very interesting. One of my favorites!

I loved it. Her character development is great, you like all the characters. Great summer beach read. You don't want to put it down.

Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris

Beautiful, Interesting
Writer moves to french countryside to follow childhood memories. He reconnects with his uncle and finds friendship in a small town.

I really liked this book. It took a while to get into, but I really liked the writing and her characters. I've read one other book by her, and she has a bittersweet style of storytelling. Really liked it, although some members had a hard time getting into it.

Adventurous, Interesting, Informative

Great book. Page turner, well written. Great discussion.

Telegraph Days: A Novel by Larry McMurtry

Young woman travels throughout the West, meets outlaws, runs a wild west show.....

Having loved Lonesome Dove, I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. It was entertaining and an easy read, but I found that I had a hard time liking the main character. She was a little irritating, but very clever with quick, whitty humor. This book is clearly written as a tall tale and just for entertainment purposes. It was just ok.

The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel by Diane Setterfield

Dramatic, Interesting, Dark
Woman is beckoned to write a famous writers true biography and learns the twisted past of twins

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down, easy read. The plot was a bit confusing a times, but took many unexpected twists and turns. Great Book!

The Scent of God: A Memoir by Beryl Singleton Bissell

A nun tells her story about joining the cloister and a nun's life until she falls in love with a priest and becomes a wife and mother.

Great story. We talked to the author and gained more insight on her life and writing the book. It was a very neat experience and I liked the book more because of it. Easy to read and very thought provoking.

Man drives horses north, while learning life lessons???

I couldn't finish this book. Hard to get into, seems to meander through subjects with no development. Very raunchy and unpleasant. Did not like this book.....
