Veracity

I loved it! I haven't actually had an opportunity to stop and think about critical issues this much since reading Fahrenheit 451 or "1984. Though it wasn't hard to read, the subject matter has left me thinking for weeks. In a brilliantly unsettling way, Veracity will make you think about the Patriot Act, your own political views and your willingness to surrender liberties for "peace." Though it is not at all clear which side the author's own political views lie on, it is clear that the author intends for us to all review and enforce our own beliefs.

That being said, the subject matter is very adult. There are certain scenes that are not appropriate for children or even young teens. Parents of teenagers should assess if their kids are able to handle graphic scenes before letting them take this one off the shelf.

Very thought provoking! An excellent description of Native American culture that could easily bring about historical discussions about "accuracy" of history for hours...Great book club book.

Whiplash (An FBI Thriller) by Catherine Coulter

This book can easily be described as something that you'd expect to find in paperback at your grocery store. It has a number of sub-plots running throughout the story that are painstakingly wrapped up in a cheesy bow tie that makes you feel like the author is trying to spell out the entire book to a group of middle school kids who aren't paying attention. Significant character development and attachment are lacking. If you need a book to read on a long plane flight and have nothing else, fine. Worth the money for a hard back? Not even with a coupon.

I was not happy when my book club picked this book. I was WRONG. It was great! It was so captivating that I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. I had a great time reading it and a wonderful time discussing civil liberties and responsibilities with my neighbor's son, a middle school boy, who was also reading it.

Forgetful. It's been two months since I read it and I can't even remember it...
