My Reviews
Our book club really enjoyed this one.
Our club agreed hands down we all hated it but we will never forget it!!! One moment can change everything.
Only a few of our members enjoyed this book.
Lois Meltzer brings to life four women who realize they are "unnoticed" and past their prime who can seek moral revenge on society and people. Small things at first: rudenesses are redressed; insults are repaid. Later, as the movement grows: banks are robbed; an eco-rapist is blackmailed into doing the right thing; a Supreme Court Justice is kidnapped... all with the intention of making at least a few of the things that are wrong, at least a little right. The invisible, dispossessed women are, sure enough, beyond (or below) suspicion. And so their "Book Group From Hell" decides to go global: they put up a website, "call-to-flabby-arms.com", the purpose of which is to liberate their peers from lives without efficacy. Several of their "schemes" were unrealistic, but not outlandish enough to be considered quirky. It had me laughing out loud in many parts!!
I just wish she would have developed the characters a little more...next book?
Dog lovers must read. A bit scientific in parts but I enjoyed this because I gained insight into my favorite friends evolution. Loved Merle's spirit!!!
After I got through the religious background on Pi I could not put down the book. Very thought provoking on soo many levels!!!
Great read!! Lily is a true survivior quite a character!!! She is very strong willed and determined!! She is very rough around the edges. Her character sometimes leaves you feeling sad for those around her.
I picked this up by mistake and could not put it down. The Author does a great job weaving two stories together from the past and present day. Although it was a fictional depiction of the Vel Di hiv in France during the German Round of French Jewish Families, it read pretty true to history. A haunting story of Sarah, a 10 year old who has left her 3 yr old brother behind in a secret closet during the round-up and Modern day reporter Julia who has been asked to recount the historical event. Julia uncovers much more than she bargained for in a story but in her own life. Great book club discussions!!!
Good beach read.Repetative at times . Lots of great recipies..would have love to see some photos...
