My Reviews
I loved this book! An usual concept of storytelling from the dogs point of view. I have now found myself looking at my own dog, and thinking \\\" I wonder...\\\"
Beautifully written, great characters and a real tear jerker at the end. My twenty year old son enjoyed it also and recommended it to me.
Both dog lovers and none will love it also.....
An interesting tie in with the hit series, the characters were different with very varied backgrounds.
A good "girlie" book club book, but I probably wouldn't rush out to buy another book by this author.
It was an amusing holiday beach read!
I chose this book initially because I find the perfume industry a fascinating subject , and wanted to find out more about the selection and process a chosen scent goes through from start to finish. However this was not the case, these details were briefly mentioned towards the end of the book. The characters of Eva, Grace and Madame Zed could have been written in a much stronger way. I liked the way each chapter jumped between New York & Paris.
An easy read that would make a good \"Girls night in\" movie!
I was hooked right from the word go! So atmospheric and informative. We felt that midway there were a couple of additional characters introduced who confused the story and added little to the plot.
As a group we loved this book. Truly addictive and very hard to put down! What a tangled plot, switching from one person to another, never really knowing who was telling the truth and who really you believed! Great build up, however it seemed the end was a little rushed.
Wow! This was a page turner from start to finish, totally addictive and very hard to put down for the night.
The connections and inter twined relationships were unique. As a book group we all loved it and would not hesitate in recommending to others to read.
At discussion time we each explored the special and different views and marriages we all had.
The epilogue was a brilliant way to end the novel.
I found this book absorbing from the first page! The insight into the Chinese culture, traditions and ways of courtesan life from a Western point of view were astounding. This book was very hard to put down. The characters were all very different as well as being addictive, I was left wanting to know more about them.
The novel gives a good insight into the daily lives of upper class gentry of England in the late 1800's.
The description of the country side, the scents and shades of the leaves and flowers are beautiful.
As the story progresses we go from this into a dark and mysterious London, whith much 'ducking and diving' the character of Dorian Gray manages to escape being caught for the terrible crimes he has committed.
