My Reviews
This was a fun, whimsical book. I enjoyed reading it, but felt it had little depth and was disappointed with the way everything tied up nice and pretty...like a Hallmark Christmas card rather than real life. Nonetheless, it was a fun read, and it did keep me turning the pages.
I thought this book was beautiful. It was simple, no doubt, which could be deemed a criticism, but I think it an asset considering the ease with which it is read and the deep thoughts it invokes in the reader long after the book is set down. A very optimistic view of life and heaven, but one not without it's sad side.
Well worth the read. And a good book for discussion. Just make sure you don't just copy the discussion questions from any website, as some are pretty bad!
One of the most beautiful books I have read, and definitely in my top five. The first page grabs you and the book doesn't let go, even after you have read the last word. Hosseini is a brilliant writer...it's hard to believe that he maintains a career as a doctor and writes something of this magnitude...and that this is his FIRST novel! There is one scene with some melodrama, but I found the rest to be hauntingly believable. I await his next book with anticipation.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and easy to read. But it's not particularly deep (more anecdotal) and it didn't lend itself to much discussion. We ended up talking more about dogs we owned, or once owned...but it was a fun book club nonetheless. I would recommend the book, but not for book club discussion.
This was an interesting book and definitely one that lends itself to discussion at a book club meeting. But I couldn't help feeling I was reading the script for a TV drama...
I would still recommend it, as it is definitely a page turner and an enticing read.
