My Reviews
A tad difficult to read at the beginning because of the grammar but once you get into a groove you can't put it down! Loved it! Amazing that this stuff took place just a few decades ago...
I was a little hesitant at first to read a book composed of letters only but it reads so effortlessly. A must read!
I think you have to like dogs and/or car racing to really like this book. It was interesting to read a book from a dog's perspective but I didn't car for all the car racing commentary. I wouldn't tell my friends to run out and buy this book. I've definitely read better BUT the other gals in my book club did enjoy it.
Jeannette Walls childhood is almost too incredible to believe! I was entertained at every turn although I feel so bad for the author. I can't wait to read Half Broke Horses now!
So many people (who haven't read the book) told me how graphic it was and that I probably wouldn't like it. Although there is violence at the very beginning which sets the stage for the rest of the book, the story centers mainly on the destruction of a family after the loss of a loved one. I though it was rather fascinating. The movie SUCKED so read the book instead.
All of the members of my book club either liked it or loved it except me. I thought the theology was a bit skewed and I worry that some people will take it as God inspired which it is not. IT'S FICTION, PEOPLE. Good for some lively discussion though!
I've seen three movies adapted from Sparks books and they're always a total downer...although I really loved The Notebook and A Walk to Remember. This was my 1st time reading a Nicholas Sparks book and it will be my last. It was too cheesy and read like a middle schooler had written it. Not good for book clubs...
We really liked the way the book went back and forth from the past to the present in a very organized manner. Tragic and sobering story but entertaining non-the-less.
Fascinating book! There were some long parts that I didn't find particularly interesting but they were important to the story and the main character's thought process. I would totally recommend the book but not for "fun and leisure" reading necessarily...more as an informative, eye-opening look at autism in a non-fiction setting.
