My Reviews
This book made me laugh out loud. Well written in three different voices- the author did an excellent job on creating memorable characters and interweaving American history throughout the story. I loved the characters and didn't want it to end.
I enjoyed the book this third time reading it. I think I was ready for it this time. I was drawn into the book when I heard about how the author was treated after the book was published. The love story and Janie's unrelenting drive to find love and enjoy life was inspiring.
Not impressed. Love her book Gods in Alabama. Disappointed in this one.
Excellent follow up to first book. Answered lots of questions from first book.
Enjoyed the book. I'm quite liberal in my religious/spiritual views, so the plot and "teachings" were possible for my mindset. I can see how those who have strict religious views might have issues with the plot and "teachings".
Really enjoyed the book. I think EJD always gives us a story with support and reason. This is a love tragedy in many ways. It keeps you guessing to the end. And even in the end you might question your understanding of what Really happened.
It was like running into four old friends from 15 years ago and feeling sorry for where they were currently in life. You knew them well back then and you hoped that life had worked out well for them or that they had worked out their life well and that was not the case. I felt like these woman were very immature and unevolved for 50 year olds. Lots of unnecessary drama and predictable on many levels.
Well written but not convincing. Lots of gaps. Wandered.
Never would have picked it but glad I read it. Very interesting plot.
Liked the book a lot. Made me think differently about how our souls travel. Slightly disappointed in the ending. A good read overall.
Pretty much your man cheats on wife and then realizes his mistake. Characters are well-developed and likeable. The ending is very real but predictable which was kinda a letdown.....
The book is well-written and unique. The characters are interesting. BUT, I just didn't like it and didn't connect with it at all.
Enjoyed this short book by Toni Morrison. I understood it better than some of the other books I've read by her. She is deep and subtle and brilliant. Questions are left unanswered and she always allows you to draw your own conclusion. That can be frustrating if you want to "know the answer". It was short and that helped- I also listened on audible so it was neat hearing the author reading her own work.
