My Reviews
This could have been shorter by 100 pages. Our book club over all enjoyed it, but agreed it was wordy, and slow. Gives a west coast perspective on WWII especially for those of us on the East coast that have little knowledge on the internment camps. However the author brings us to the camp and then basically drops the family's overall experience.
Almost needed a list of characters there were so many. One of our club members decided it reminded her of Downton Abbey, definitely the Edwardian Period and changes are coming. So many of the social changes were represented, along with political changes too. The war was on the cusp. While there were many characters, each with their own little subplot, they were all wrapped up in the end. One member thought the author rushed to the conclusion. Most liked it better than Major Pettigrew.
My three is because while I enjoyed it, it wasn't the best literature of all time.
