The Road Home

I thoroughly enjoyed this my first read after joining the book club. Living an expat life, it brought home the similarities and differences that are everyday occurences for me at this moment in time. I would recommend it as it was a thought provoking read.

Sarah's Key

I enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down until I had reached a point where certain outcomes and events had been explained. I found it informative but sad in some respects regarding events during the 2nd world war. It certainly opened my eyes although in some parts it was lacking and I am sorry to say poorly written. But in saying that, our book club decided that it was a good read and we would recommend it to other book clubs.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I've never read this author before and I have to say I did find it heavy going trying to remember names, places, etc. It was quite a dark book and in some parts confusing but in saying that, I feel I would like to read the other 2 books in the trilogy

I Am The Messenger

I enjoyed this book. It took a while to get into the reasoning behind the authors invention of the characters, but on the whole I would recommend it - maybe young adults would enjoy it as it had connotations of The Catcher In the Rye - the angst of a young man etc.

The Help

From the moment I picked up this book I couldn't put it down. Some truly brilliant characters along with some hateful ones. It was informative to me as It brought to life the complexities of how lives were lived in such trying times! There was sadness, humour - especially humour I would say - Minny for One! my favourite character! Also brought across the dangers re most of the characters in the book. Great, great book!

Poorly Written, Dark, Confusing
Let the Great World Spin

Not a great read. After starting off well it seemed to lose its way and was quite confusing. The ending left a lor of unanswered questions too! Most of the other members unfortunately shared the same feelings! Maybe it just wasn't for me!
