My Reviews
This is a wonderful book written from a dog's perspective. It was some very insightful ideas about life as a human and how to deal with various challenges we face.
I found it interesting to follow the relationships and bonds that formed between the various characters under circumstances where they would not normally have any connection to the other person. The book inspired me to listen to more opera. It gave me a greater appreciation for that style of music.
I struggled to finish this book. It never grabbed me and whenever I put it down, I had a hard time wanting to continue the story. I felt very little connection to any of the characters and didn't really care about their lives.
I found this an interesting read. There was drama, suspense. I was moved to consider what I would do if put in a similar situation. The book was insightful about cultures that I was not very familiar. But all cultures face similar problems, only with different masks.
The book is a series of 8 short stories about various families who have owned the same piece of art and the effect the painting has on each of them. It's a study on the effect that art has on one and how to put a price on it when it could determine your survival. It's very difficult to keep all the characters and short stories straight for discussion purposes. It's best to view it as an overall study on the effect that art can have rather than a study of various characters and family dynamics. The organization of the book made it interesting and enjoyable.
I found the book very enjoyable. It's interesting to read about other cultures and how women are viewed. Always makes for a great discussion.
I did not find this book very interesting. There was little character development and I didn't find myself attaching to any of the characters or caring about them.
The book was a quick read. It was insightful as you learned about Aspergers Syndrom from various prospectives. I found it interesting with some mystery and several different relationships going on. It lead to a lively discussion.
This book really openned my eyes to what is going on in North Korea today. Scary to know that so many people are trying to survive in this declining country and to read true accounts on how a few manage to get out.
I found this book extremely interesting and informative. I did not know anything about President James Garfield and found his life facinating. Learning about America and the general thought at that time period was eye openning. This was not a boring history lesson!
The author did a fantastic job of helping us really understand the characters inhibitions and actions due to their circumstances and history. The book was inspiring and ended with a feeling of hope and renewal.
An interesting read with many twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Second half moves along very quickly. The author is very thorough in creating a complex story.
Our book club enjoyed reading the book and had some insightful discussions. Many of us were not aware of the orphan trains before reading the story. It was informative and a beautiful story of an unlikely friendship developing.
I felt the book had an interesting story but none of the characters were developed enough to really make an impact on me. It was a quick read and enjoyable, but I was hoping for more depth to the story and characters to make it more convincing.
I found the story very interesting and insightful. I only wish it was more nonfiction, less fiction.
Nice character development as you understand the different characters reactions to events, what what drives them.
This is a beautiful story about a seemingly ordinary man. Little by little, his life story is revealed, and we glimpse into the reason for his behavior. Interesting side characters show how any one can influence us.
While not a favorite book, it was enjoyable and the characters were interesting. I enjoyed the writing style, switching between time periods and finding out about different characters.
Interesting story on mental health and all we really don't know about how the brain works and what may trigger problems.
Loved this book as it explored two sisters and various descendants of them. Lots of mini stories that weave into previous stories as you discover family connections. The book was insightful as you learn about struggles and typical life problems of each generation.
This was an enjoyable read. As the story unfolds, there are twists and turns, leaving you guessing what really happened and what will happen. A few situations don't seem realistic, but still enjoyable.
