My Reviews
Only choose this book if you are a Christian oriented book club, which we aren't. I went to the club to listen but didn't read the book. I won't read any of this kind of book.
I love it,but some will not like it at all. It could be classified as science fiction-like.
Says so much about what we humans do to endanger the environment without thinking. Historical, but a timeless message.
Four stories, all very different, dealing with the duality of good and evil in all of us. In each story some sort of revenge is carried out. Each story is very different in tone and writing style, as if Mr, King is experimenting with different voices, though the voices are consistent within each story.
I have read few Steven King books before, but this one is very well written with attention to character and well chosen detail. My favorite was the first story, more a novella, "1922" which though the most twisted of these tales also took me to the world of 1922, characters who are in desperate situations, and a complex protagonist.
A tale of the human cost of medical advances and the profit motive. But mostly a story of the racial and economic differences in medical care and living conditions in the past up to the present day. An almost unbelievable set of events, and characters developed with depth, give the reader an interesting social history of the US.
