My Reviews
Although reading about the challenges of the Joad family during the depression was difficult at times, I was really glad a member chose this book for us to read. It is very well written and provided us with some excellent discussion topics.
This book is extremely well written with brilliant descriptions. I was hooked from the beginning and was torn between wanting to finish it and never wanting it to end. I became a part of the community and still have a void in my life because I was totally immersed in the novel. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time!
Our book club just read this book and everyone enjoyed it. We shared what made us laugh and the events that caused tears. We liked that it was written from Enzo the dogs point of view. Everyone agreed it was a good read.
This book grabbed me from the beginning and luckily it was a fast read because I could not put it down! It inspires great discussions and tugs at your heart. I highly recommend this book!
Our book club members thought this book was very good. The author is a gifted descriptive writer who obviously does a tremendous amount of research before writing a book. We had a great discussion over the characters in this book.
I like how the author used voices of several different characters to tell the story throughout the book. It made it more interesting and more insightful. It was obvious the author was a thorough researcher as she developed the book. Her descriptive writing helped me visualize and experience the challenging times.
This was one of those books that I could not put down but I never wanted it to end. This is the author's first novel and she is a superb writer. She develops the characters so well that they become part of your life while you are reading the book. Our entire book club loved this book and were amazed that the Irish were treated so poorly in the US. I highly recommend this book.
I had trouble staying engaged in this book. I am surprised it was on the bestseller list. I would not recommend this book to others because there are so many other great books to read.
Once I started this book, I could not put it down! It was so well written and such a great story!
Our book club recently read and discussed "Roundhouse". We thought is was very well written and it provided a very interesting discussion. We all really enjoyed this book.
Everyone in our book club enjoyed reading this book even though the subject was depressing. The author did an amazing job using adjectives to describe the dismal conditions and developing the characters.
This book gained a spot on my list of the top 10 books I have ever read. It was extremely well written and the characters were very well developed. Our book club members all really liked this book.
If someone would not have picked this for our book club, I never would have finished reading it. The story was not connected well and it was such a disappointing read because Lamb inserted every current social issue into the book with very little substance.
Everyone in our book club enjoyed this selection. We highly recommend it!
