My Reviews
This book was one of the best I have ever read! It made me laugh, it made me weep and it made me look at my dog differently from the moment I started reading it!
Enzo is a fantastic character to hear from - he is insightful, deep and funny all at the same time. I was questionable about the dog being the main character when I learned we were reading this, but I was in the end, he was perfect to tell this story.
Absolutely loved this book and will suggest it to everyone I know!
Very long (nearly 800 pages). Too many characters to keep good track of what they were doing and developing their presence. Lots of difficult and depressing topics in the book.
the storyline is fantastic, the characters are deep and the story, as a whole, will make you laugh and cry.
This book takes you on an adventure with the main character that you would want to ride along with! I laughed out loud over and over and couldn't wait to find out where Leigh was headed next and what hysterical thing would happen while she was there! Leigh references the 80's generation regularly, so if you grew up or lived through the 80's you will relate well with her tone. I enjoyed it tremendously and was sad to see it end.
While I enjoyed the book, it was fairly predictable and unrealistic at times. The descriptions of the Indian slums and the cultural pieces were very realistic, the relationships between the characters were not always believable to me. Quick to read, informative culturally, but not my favorite book this year. Author avoided digging too deep on feelings and spent her time developing cultural content instead.
It was a well written book, although the author could have been more concise in the 1st half of book to shorten those scenes - it dragged some for the first 50%. As long as you can handle the topic involved, you will find the book somewhat intriguing. Not my favorite book...but didn't hate that I read it.
This book really gave what I felt to be a realistic view of life in the circus in the 1930's. Loved the descriptive details of the settings, lifestyle and characters.
The relationships were complex and fantastic at the same time...also loved that about the book.
An excellent read!
Everything aboutbthis book was believable and felt real! Loved sharing their journey and feeling their sorrows, happiness and pains.
Loved the depth of the characters and story.
