Informative but not a quick read!

Under the Banner of Heaven was interesting but it is a very slow read. Morman fundamentalist sects are fascinating to read about as is the history of the LDS religion. I was also unaware of the Lafferty brothers and their heinous crimes. However, the book just didn't "flow" for me. I had to make myself finish this book. While the book was thought-provoking and extremely informative, it was also slow moving and that's why I can't recommend it for other book clubs. I would recommend it for anyone who has a fascination with the early Morman history and polygamy.

Interesting but...

The Postmistress gets off to a slow start. If you can get through the first 75 pages or so, it gets so much better after that. I really liked that part of it was set in the US before we entered WW11. It was interesting to read about what life was like on the eve of war. Our book club had some thought-provoking discussion about relationships, war, the news, and the sharing/withholding of information. Overall, most of our members liked the book but didn't love it.

Dont know much about history...

It was interesting to read a book about the Japanese internment during WWII. Not a high point in our nation's history by any means. I liked the way Ford toggled back and forth from the 1940's and 1980's. If you like historical fiction, you'll enjoy this book.
