My Reviews
Though the book starts out as an interesting mystery, it quickly becomes overwrought with a very dark emotional tone. Did not enjoy this book at all! Felt like it was just a push to publish something else in her name.
Rose learns at 9 years old that she can read the emotions of the people behind the food she eats. Others in her family are also revealed to have supernatural abilities, but the book isn't interesting enough to overcome the difficulties they encounter.
Reading It’s Hard Not to Hate You, is a little like going to confession and discovering you are not the only one in line. Valerie Frankel opens up both her soul and family to give an honest look at her own marriage, family life, and shortcomings. On the way, you will find it hard not to laugh and identify with her innermost insecurities. I totally loved this book and look forward to going back and reading her other volumes, including Thin is the New Happy.
In the style of Jodi Picoult's fiction, the Barber family faces both a legal and ethical battle when their only son is indicted for the murder of a fellow classmate. Somewhat of a loner, Jacob also displays a narcissistic personality, demonstrating that he has little ability to emphasize with animals or people. Using a Picoult signature twist, the story traverses between two time periods and has a most unexpected conclusion to the story.
This book was obviously published to make money. Not worth a dime.
