Our club found this book difficult to get into, but we all enjoyed the last 1/3rd. While it wasn't anyone's favorite book and wasn't life-changing, we all agreed it was a good book for club as it inspired a lot of discussion.
I was fascinated and couldn't put it down, but it is certainly not an "easy read". Find a quiet place and forget anything you thought you knew about Cleopatra. It's worth the time it takes to read.
You can't help but cheer for Jack as he battles unknown forces inside and outside. His mom is remarkable and the story is one not easily forgotten. A few inconsistencies here and there but overall, a quick and enjoyable read. It won't be everyone's favorite book but it will generate good discussions.
