A well written and captivating story. You are immediately hooked on Wang Lu and what is happening to him. It leaves you uncertain as to whether or not he is a good man. You will have to finish it!
By far one of my favorites. Well written, captivating and emotional. This book kept our club talking and talking and talking. There are so many layers it is impossible to peel them all away.
I truly enjoyed this book. It had amazing and intricate plots and underplots. Once you start, you will not be able to put it down.
The author writes beautifully. It is a little difficult to follow the characters and time at first, but as the author develops the voices of the characters, you know. The twist at the end keeps you reading and reading.
This book kept me reading...wanted to find out more. But when I put the book down, I was left feeling a bit let down. It was definitely an easy read...and would be good for a short month.
Amazingly written and developed. What would appear to be a very "male" story...held me captivated. The story applied to many areas of life and was unbelieveably moving. A fantastic read that will stay with me!
At about page 300 I realized that I knew just as much as I did in the first 10 pages. I also didn't really care about the characters very much. There was no "buy in" to the idea that a man would risk his ehtical practice for someone so...unworthy of help. The voices of the characters were all the same. Drastically disappointing.
