My Reviews
Cleopatra's Daughter was a colorful and intersting story, but it is a very light read (despite the 448 pages). Though there are a lot of dramatic historical events, the story is all about the young characters and the history of them is not completely believable. However, once I got past that, I really enjoyed the storylines the author chose, especially in the context of Octavian Rome. But, since the book is simply entertainment, there was not much thought-provoking materials for club discussion.
This book sounded good and uplifting from the description, and from the review by the author of The Help. However, I found it to be extremely simple and without any point. The protagonist "overcame" her issues, but without much challenge and with a fairytale ending.
Regardless of what side of the issue you fall on (if you can pick one at all!), this book with definitely make you think about how you conduct yourself as a scientist/researcher. Very well done.
