My Reviews
Once you get used to the format of reading letters it is an entertaining read. A little slow in the begining but heart-warming by the end.
This book starts off slow but becomes a compelling story of courage and survival. The format of writing is a bit confusing so I would not reccomend for teen readers.
The continuing saga of "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" only gets better. I can hardly wait for the third book to come out!
Once you get beyond the quirky character construction this book is amazing. A true love story about God's love for each of us. Beautiful!
This was a captivating story that drew me in and taught be about something I didn't know about... detention centers, troubles in Nigeria & Jamaica and deportation. Truly an eye opening experience that had insight into the human spirit, suffering and our human failings.
Although it took a little time to get into the book and then it was tremendously dark in spots it turned out to be a page turning read. Overall I really enjoyed it!
It was a great 3rd book but I think the story had one more book to come that we will never enjoy. It didn't end it all for me... I guess I will just have to imagine the rest. I loved this book but I still think the 2nd book was the best.
Quick and enjoyable read. Not life changing but certainly interesting. Compelling characters.
Fun read once it got going. It was definitely more fiction than historical. Just an okay read.
It had some interesting moments but all in all it was just a quick read of an unusual topic.
This was a cute book that made for and easy, fun read. I read it as an "in between" book from book club and enjoyed it.
It was an okay "fun" read. A little slow in parts and a truly strange main character that was a bit hard to cheer for at times. She lacked motivation and drive which was a little hard to stomach but came out okay in the end despite herself.
This was a fascinating book about a time and era I knew very little about. The characters are so humanly flawed yet draw you in. Can't wait to read Serpent.
For a huge fan of the actress I was very disappointed in this book. It was written in a very scattered style with no real point. The story went off on so many sub-tangents it was difficult to remember what you were really reading about.
This was a delightful story and a beautiful picture of a girl, family relationships and the sweeter side of the South.
This was just a fun brainless read for an in between book.
This was an instantly engaging story about love, character, family and heartbreak. I loved every second of the story!
Of the four wedding books in the series this was my least favorite but it met my expectations. Fun, romantic, light read. Very Enjoyable.
I was looking forward to this book as a possible new fun mystery series to read inbetween book club picks but was disappointed. The main character Anna is really kind of a depressing person with no real faith, bordering alcoholism and lacking in human relationships. She was not the heroine I was hoping for in saving our environment. I am going to give one more book in the series a try but after that I am done.
Well I gave one more book in this series a try and I am done. I don't love Anna the main character and it seems as though the whole mystery wraps up in seconds at the end with little anticipation or intrigue from the clues leading up to it.
This was a fascinating book about postpartum depression, the complexities of family dynamics, and our legal system.
Wonderful book of easy steps to building teams. Wonderful for those new to management.
I really enjoyed every minute of this book. It was a wonderful tale of love and what the Hemingway's marriage may have been like. A fasinating time with 5 year packed with love and adventure and certainly heartbreak.
This was a wonderful perspective and taste of 1920's Paris and the literary and artistic community. A sad end to a probably doomed romance but great insight into Hemingway.
This was a fascinating drama of the early 1900's New York and the beginnings of psychology, forensics and the origins of the real CSI. A great read that keeps you interested, horrified and on the trail of a serial killer.
It started out a bit slow covering just day to day life but I think that was reflective of the point of what normalcy in family life is until tragedy strikes. The author truly did communicate the feeling of emptiness and emotional desolation when something terrible happens and there is no way to go back and capture the everyday normalcy.
It is never too late to fall in love and with age comes wisdom about what really matters. A beautiful, fun story of a romance late in life. The son in the story is horrible beyond words though!
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was insightful and a good reminder of how we all need to reflect on who we are and how we got here through the trials of our youth. The book did leave me hanging at the end which I know was intentional and well written.
Clear, simple tips and activities on incorporating better leadership principles into your life. Really enjoyed this.
A fascinating book that brought ancient Egypt to life for me. Kept me captivated through the entire book.
This book just seemed kind of pointless and disjointed. There was never any real good flow in the story for me. I had to force myself to finish it.
The second in the Poison series was every bit as good as the first. I really enjoyed the story line and we learned more about their characters as their relationships developed. Can't wait for the third one!
It was a nice book to read. No problem getting through it. It is very similiar to "Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons".
I found this book to be quite interesting to read. I was on an Alaskan cruise so I am certain the setting helped. A fascinating account of a young man on a nomadic journey through life. Left me wondering how he ended up on this journey.
Was a very intersesting look at the beginnings of Alaska.
Very enjoyable light summer read. Predictable but thouroughly enjoyable.
This was an interesting look at Chicago and the World's Fair along with a side running story of a little known serial killer.
Seemed more history then fiction and a lot of detail and research clearly went into the research of this book. For someone who just wants the flow of a story this may not be for you but if you have time to open your mind to history that you wouldn't otherwise learn about it is a captivating read.
I found this an interesting book because I knew very little about Liberia and it's origins. It is tragic the history they have evolved from but hopefully under the leadership of Ellen they will emerge a better county.
I really did enjoy the adventure of this book, the world of photo journalism and the always tragic story of the Vietnam War.
Something a little different. Predicatable but fun to read a different author. A bit elementary in the story line.
It was very graphic and a difficult subject matter to read about but an absolute must read as the parent of a teenager. Really shows how easily and innocently a child can get pulled in to the world of an internet predator.
I have a hard time getting past the affair part to really sink in and enjoy the story to it's fullest but it is interesting. I knew very little about Frank Llyod Wright and it did give a good glimpse of a period of his life and who he was. Fans of "A Paris Wife" will enjoy this.
The book was just a fun in between read. Nothing too heavy just all of the great heartache and romance of a beautiful love story. Fans of Nicholas Sparks will enjoy this book. Fast, easy read.
I really enjoyed this story and the twists that kept it interesting to the very end. A wonderful story about life, the impact of our decisions and forgiveness.
A dramatic story about everyday life and the struggles of caring for someone who is dying. A touching story about families, sisters and relationships with a little fun thrown in from food and its role in our lives.
It was an interesting perspective on WWII in Hong Kong which I had never really read anything about. The characters were all pretty unlikeable which just made it a challenge to really connect to the story.
Interesting perspective of the internment camps of WWII and the prejeduce that exists in so many cultures. A beautiful story of love, loss, friendship and hope. I very much enjoyed this story.
An interesting story about the 1400's in Spain. I got a little lost in some of the fencing terminology and the events taking place in history at that time but all in all it was an entertaining read.
When I started the book I thought I had figured out the story line right away but there were twists and turns along the way that kept me guessing. Had some interestng perspectives on our struggles with morality, reality and what is important. Very engaging characters.
A beautiful story about the trials and tribulations of friendship through life's journey. Great read!
Fun and entertaining story. Has it all; adventure, intrigue, romance, politics and even ghosts.
I have added this to my daughter's required reading list before she goes off to college. Tragic story that can help so many other young women if they are just informed and more aware. The other book that is a must read if you appreciate the message of this book is "Want to Go Private". It is a fictional account but also has a powerful message for girls entering high school.
A interesting story of love and loss during the great depression. The characters are interesting and keep you engaged in the story. It all wraps up a bit abruptly at the end. Good inbetween book for book club.
I really had to discipline myself to keep reading. There were some twists and turns that I found a bit predicatable, I did not love the writing style and I wasn't sure if that was to create the character or the authors actual style. None of the characters are likeable and it is really just like reading about an inevitable train wreck.
The most interesting thing about this classic is it could be written today. With as much change as there has been over the centuries there are parts of human existence that are timeless and current. I don't know that I am a big one for the classics but it was an interesting read. Few characters that I could really get connected with but it is a tragedy in the truest sense.
This is an interesting story about how events can change the course of our lives forever and through tragedy happiness can still survive. It is tender and touching; told from the perspective of an elderly couple in the final stages of life. I enjoyed this book.
I liked the flow of the writing and the intrigue of the story. There were parts that were a bit predictable but all in all it was an enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this book but I had just gotten back from Savannah so it made me want to return. A colorful city with a patchwork past. Enjoyed the story, the history and the quirky characters. Hard to believe it is all really real.
I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about the Civil War but I knew nothing about Franklin, TN. It is wonderful to get to learn something new. The fictional story really brought the history of this battle to life. I enjoyed the story very much but I think it went a little long. I felt there were some parts that could have been omitted to keep the reader captured more completely. All in all in was a great read.
This was a well written and interesting book about Iran at the fall of the Shah seen through the eyes of a teenage girl. It deals with the history from a surface level and keeps the readers interest. It did leave me with more questions about the history and politics involved than provide answers but it was an interesting read.
The outcome was a bit predictable to me but the story was still worth the read. The journey to the end definitely kept me interested.
This is a novel with a different part of WWII that you generally don\\\'t hear about. I found the characters engaging and the book enjoyable.
