Rhett Butler's People

Novel gives background on Rhett Butler's entire life and all the people he knew both before and after the time frame of "Gone With the Wind". We agreed that Clark Gable & Vivian Leigh were pictured in our minds as we read this. Character of Melanie Wilkes was fleshed out more and she was not as sickenly sweet as in GWTW.

The Hunger Games Trilogy

Set in the future, every year a group of teens are chosen by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games in a fight to the death. People in the Capital are entertained while people in the outlying Districts resent the Games. Dystopian novels, hopefully a warning to readers. Some group members absolutely loved the books, others grew tired of all 3 books being in Katniss' voice.

11 members agreed that they enjoyed the book. We learned a lot about Oswald. We enjoyed the 50s & 60s references--music, dances, etc. Romantic couples abound in the book, as do tragic events. Readers of Stephen King books picked up on refences from his other books. People who have lived in Maine or vacation there enjoyed the actual location & business references.
