My Reviews
I loved this story of true friendship! I loved the fact that it was set in the 70's and 80's and then moved into today. I enjoyed the journey of womanhood that each friend embarked upon differently. It was a touching ending and I do think it is a wonderful book club book. This was our first book! I don't get a great deal of feedback and am always looking for new members. Do your members have an open mind and a sense of humor? Chelsea Handler is a brilliant comedian with a knack for captivating her audience. I laughed so hard in a couple places of this book that I cried a bit! The crude sexual references may make it a poor choice for the easily offended. I like the way Chelsea knows who she is and doesn't mind her sexuality. It comes across in her show and in her book. I think I need to read her other book now, she's got a fan!!!
I can't remember reading a book quite as fast as I did this novel. It was a compelling novel, that kept me wondering. I found the writer's use of sexual content to be just borderline erotic, yet not dirty. I related to the characters while also judging them. It was fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and hated to see it end!!! Suggest it to your members if you would like to get some intersting conversations about money, lust, and poison started. : )
Written in a different style than I am used to. This book seemed to take forever to catch my interest, but once it took hold it was like that Tennessee mountain became a part of me. I found myslef curious, angry, and invested in it's characters. The novel was neatly tied up at the end like a beautiful bow in a fancy gift shop. I think it is a dramatic and powerful book choice. Especially if you are familiar with Eastern Tennessee or even with mountains in general.
