My Reviews
The book follows a few plot lines and some of them are really interesting, but the main bookending story, of oscar himself, is easily the weakest. In the end I was glad I read it, but I don't know that I'd tell someone else to read it.
I was completely drawn into the character's lives. The power went out while I was reading and I used a flashlight to keep going.
This book jumps around a lot, from different narrators, to different generations, different countries, even different languages. We had a lively discussion about it, and most of us said we were glad we'd read it, but not sure we'd recommend it.
an excellent story with lots of other great elements, an interesting perspective on the depression, romance, and the circus.
at once tragic and endearing, particularly the voice of little bee herself.
this book goes on and on and the protagonist rarely moves forward. not worth the effort.
I'd say the most amazing thing about the book is that even though Portia basically starves herself, her plan is based on something reasonable she just takes it too far. It's an interesting look at eating disorders and personal image.
