The book may seem mundane in the beginning, but it leads to a huge climatic event which changes the reader's perspective over time. A very difficult read, not because of the writing, but because of the subject matter. Those with children who are teenagers will be able to totally relate to this story.
A stunning first book by Katherine Boo providing an in-depth study of slum life in Mumbai. Subject matter is heartbreaking at times but beautifully written.
This book while not reality based, is believable in terms of the tale itself which is, as many are, good vs. evil. The son of Stephen King is a gifted writer and this book's main horror character, Charles Manx, is a cross between Randall Flagg and Pennywise the Clown.
