This was the first book for our new book club at work, and it turned out to be an excellent choice!
This book piqued my interest from the very first page. The author has a beautiful writing style and weaves her characters' stories together in a way that had me begging for answers yet not wanting the book to end! We had a great discussion in our book club - everyone was just enamored with this tale.
Really interesting story but loses steam at the end.
I was really looking forward to reading this book because I liked the idea of getting the Wizard of Oz from the wicked witch of the west's perspective. But this story was much different than what I expected and left me with more questions than answers.
The characters in this story were interesting. However, there were several story lines, and many were never resolved or seemed unnecessary to the overall plot. The story seemed to just stop rather than being finished.
I started reading this book with pretty low expectations honestly, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was really interesting to read about someone who contributed so much to science without even finishing grade school! As a former member of a hospital IRB I appreciated the insight into how current research guidelines evolved after years of unethical behavior and lack of patient rights.
Great story that is a quick read, full of fun twists and turns. I think everyone can identify with at least one character in this book. So sit back and enjoy the ride!
