My Reviews
This one was impossible to put down as I just had to find out what happened to each of the wonderful housewives. They sure didn't eat Bon Bon's but they were very inspiring. I wanted to run right out and meet with my girls.
Although it wasn't my favorite book we've read, this was very informative and opened my eyes to a problem that I may someday face. If you have girls, read it and you'll never be the same.
I never looked at discrimination in quite this light but The Help really made my eyes open and my heart pound at the horrible and inappropriate ways people are treated. We all have a beating heart....use them.
I just couldn't get through it.
You don't know how good you have it in life until you've read this book. I couldn't believe some of these things could actually happen in real life....and to children no less. It will make you a more compassionate person guaranteed.
Not only can you find out why you're flaky, driven, or laid-back but you can also find out how to better communicate with your spouse, children, parents, friends, boss, co-workers, or whoever! It's a really good read for insight and understanding about who you are and why you do what you do!
The only reason I even made it through this one is because I wanted to be able to discuss it at book club. In my normal reading I would have put it down after about page 10. It's slow, dark, gloomy, difficult, and not something I will ever read again.
Somehow this part of history was totally new to me. WWII history is something I really enjoy reading about and this one was the best so far. Having been written in letters it allows you to see many different sides to the same situation and teaches about all the angles. Since I hosted this one and I love to cook, we had the Potato Peel Pie too. It wasn't the best but it sure set the scene.
This one just wasn't for me though I hoped it would be since it was the first one our book club read. I found it hard to get into and never really got there.
I really really tried to like this one because I was fascinated with the possibility of having a 40 year friendship. Unfortunately, I never could get into it and gave up about 1/2 way through which is something I never do. Most of the girls in our club liked it though so it may have been just my state of mind but I still just didn't like it.
I liked this more than some of the books I have rated as "Did not like" but certainly not enough to give it a "I Liked It". It was dark, gloomy, and slow. There were points where I was really impressed with things that were going on but most of the time I was just wanting to get through it.
This one pulled at my heart strings and made me wonder what I would do in the same situation. If you want a deep but interesting read, you've got it.
This one made me think about my friends, family, views, goals and path of life. Awesome!
I went into this book thinking it was going to be slow and hard to dive into. That's what I get for judging a book by the cover. I couldn't put it down and found myself sneeking off to read a chapter, a page, a paragraph..... I just had to find out what was going to happen.
There's no way you can walk away from this one without finishing it. I learned soooo much about our history without even feeling like I was learning. It's a cool story, very interesting characters, informative, yet educational and life changing. You never knew you had it so good until now.
