I enjoyed the book. However, it is not a book that I would recommend for avid adult readers. I would, however, recommend it for a teenager.
I thought this was a great book and one that I recommend to book clubs. I loved how the chapters are written from the different women's perspectives. I was raised in the South with housekeepers and grew up to be a Junior Leaguer. There is a lot of truth to the author's characters-the good people as well as the not-so-good people. Highly recommend!
I did not think I would like this book when I saw that it was written through letters. I put off starting it for 3 months. When I started it, I couldn't put it down. It was so out-of-the box! In a world of predictable story lines, this one is so unexpected. This should be on the top of any book club's list!
Started this the same weekend I went to D.C. and toured the Holocaust Museum with my son. I enjoyed how the author used both a present day character as well as the little girl in the Holocaust. It was very well written and was hard to put down.
Loved this book about a boy, a dysfunctional family, and the wonderful Sawtelle dogs. I was fascinated by the dogs as much as the story of the boy. Very clever story and very well written. I loved it until the last chapter. The ending was a letdown.
Fascinating to read about the story of a child at the sanitarium at Warm Springs, Georgia. The sanitarium was a real place. We had the added benefit that one of my former book club members had actually been sent there as a child. The character of the girl, Shreve, is endearing. I found the book very informative.
