The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins, Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, by Kirstin Downey

The Woman Behind the New Deal: Frances PerkinsWho knew that Frances Perkins played such an enormous role in United States history and policy? She was an incredible woman way ahead of her time. She was the first woman cabinet member ever. She was so effective in influencing Franklin Roosevelt that other cabinet members resented and tried to sabbatoge her. Frances was behind many public policies -- getting good employment data, social security, child labor laws -- just to name a few biggies. Given our political divisions today and the political devisions of France's time -- it is a very timely book.
