A Holocaust tale, which makes it a sobering read. The author weaves an interesting tale of a little girl who survives and the impact this had on her life. It reveals dark issues of French citizens' participation in the Holocaust but then the author introduces characters whose bravery in the face of overwhelming odds is inspiring. I wasn't as enamored with the story of the modern day narrator.
