My Reviews
A book I wouldn't have normally picked, absolutely loved it! Great discussion!
This book was very difficult to understand and get into. Once I re-read the first 100 pages, I finally understood the time travel aspect. Then I was hooked. I really liked the second half of the book better. Our book club - only 1/2 read the whole thing most were turned off by the time travel. Those that got through LOVED IT!!
Everyone loved it. The characters were fun to discuss. Lots of laughs!! Fast & fun read!!
The introduction when the AHEBB's are in the hospital doesn't make any sense until the end and makes the book really hard to get into.
Otherwise we enjoyed the book. Most everyone in our book club finished it!
Although since it is bible based, sometimes it might be good to stay away from a selection that could bring up religion if your club is uncomfortable with that. Otherwise it's a real interesting page turner - historical fiction.
This book will transport you back into your own childhood. It is written in the perpective of a young girl, Sally O'Malley. Her relationship with her younger sister is so sweet and the book is hard to put down. Well Written.
We had mixed reviews about this book but it made for great discussion. This was one of our best book club discussions.
This book is a memoir but it jumps all over the place and we didn't enjoy reading it. Difficult to discuss and difficult to read.
After I reread the first 100 pages, I really liked the book. Sweet love story with a lot of adventure.
Great mystery, couldn't put the book down and made for great discussion.
Really gave us pause as mother's to see how children can be persuaded by their friends.
No one in our book club liked it. It was a "guys book" and we also don't like memoirs.
Sheri is the best story teller, as mother's we could relate to all her funny stories and situations. I laughed out loud several times while reading this book.
We didn't care about the characters, the story line was bad and it was difficult to read because it was so poorly written. Too bad, always thought this author was good but was obviously under a deadline.
This book had many story lines that never finished out, the end was drug out about one of the characters dying of cancer. I felt sick when it was over and depressed. It was like the author was under a deadline and didn't care about the story.
Fascinating story about a time when segregation was just beginning.
This book is about early onset alzheimer's. Really puts things in perspective as to taking life more seriously. It was sad but I thought made for great discussion and is one of those terrible things that could happen to anyone.
made for great discussion.
This book is incredible!! You cannot believe what this woman was capable of and got away with!!! There is also a movie on lifetime that pretty much followed the book. Made for great discussion and also was informative as to recognizing that there are sick people in the world to steer clear of!!
Made for great discussion!!! This mom is AWFUL!!!
Most everyone in our book club loved this book. It was considered thick and even are members that aren't big readers got through it without difficulty and loved it.
The book weaves in a family and you also learn about sweetgrass baskets. Very clever story.
This story takes place during the Egyptian dynasty and it is fascinating how things are similar to today's world and how things are different.
This book does give you lots to discuss but the first 50 pages are poorly written, the questions in the back of the book are awful, and there are twists and turns in the book that are disjointed and don't flow well.
It was a good idea to do a sequel on what happened with Ben/Sam but the plot was far fetched and didn't get exciting until the end. Some things didn't make sense like why did Vincent go on the very dangerous trip if he couldn't master walking on snow shoes. Time was of the essence for them to rescue Ben's baby and yet we had to hear about how he couldn't master it. Also when the expert told Vincent to stay in the cabin, he didn't. Plus they had cell phones that would only work at certain times??? Didn't totally make sense.
However the part about how Beth coped and looking back on why Vincent turned out the way he did was interesting. That's about it though. At least everything wrapped up nicely and the baby was rescued, and another child found in the making of the film.
Our bookclub read Nefertiti last year and enjoyed learning about Egyptian history through the book. It didn't feel like homework and you could really picture how these people lived. This book was chosen because it was the authors second book and we really enjoyed her first one. Sometimes that is a bad thing but in this case, I was pleasantly surprised that it was written completely different.
The book centered around Nefertari and Ramesses and their love story. Like the first book it took a while to get through the first few chapters getting the names straight, but once they moved Nefertari and broke her precious statue, the book took off.
I didn't realize it but there is a dictionary in the end of the book that is real helpful for the odd words that you will find. Also in the front of the book is a helpful listing of the "cast of characters".
There are three stories of women of different generations woven through the story. It was very interesting the way it was written. They all went through terrible things and there was a mystery about it that was hard to guess. It just kept you wanting to read more.
Well in our group of 13 I think two people read it all the way through! The only part I liked was the last part that was like the movie. We didn't even discuss the book. I felt it was painful to read. Long boring until the last part. Just watch the movie, it is a whole lot better!!
This book was an easy read! Very fast paced and hard to put down. Our bookclub needed a mystery and this was a good choice for a change. Gives some insight to the true evil side of divorce and what greed can do to some. Of course it is fiction but gave us good discussion.
I had a hard time getting into this book. It wasn't until half way through that it began to grab my attention. The author was very wordy and seemed to take pages to say something a paragraph would say. She had questions in the back of the book that were just as wordy and we couldn't get through them at the meeting. The book is a series. There were some that really loved the book, I thought there were interesting parts but overall too wordy for me. I still recommend it to book clubs because overall I think there were readers that enjoyed the book despite the wordiness of it all.
The book starts off as a sweet love story and then goes deeper into some deep seeded family issues. There were twists and turns and shocking things that happened that it was hard to put down. Your opinions of people changed during the book as the truth unravelled. There was some sadness as well. I really hated the book to end!
