My Reviews
We read this book as our first choice as a new book club. The group was evenly divided between liking and not liking it, many feeling that the author was too self absorbed, too egocentric while being very privledged. I thought the book well written and authentic, demonstrating a vulnerability that trandsends power and money. Altho, admittedly, most folks in her situation would not have the friends nor resouces to cope with the situation in so comfortable a manner. Still, an excellent book for thought provoking discussion.....and one not soon forgotten.
An enthralling tale of one man's journey to change the world. Greg Mortenson does not insinuate himself into Afganistani life, but rather charms the Afgan people to aid in the building of schools to educate their female children....what a radical idea !
