My Reviews
I had a hard time getting through the story - it simply didn't make me want to move along with the story. I didn't no like it, I just wasn't intrigued enough. Others in my book club really liked it, and upon our discussion I realized I didn't pick up on a few clues that make the book pretty interesting. I think a second read may make me really like it.
This was an interesting look at how eighties music shaped this (Rolling Stone) author. It made me think about what songs influenced me in the same way. I grew up in the eighties and loved all the references.
I discussed this with two other people - both were older than me - and they didn't know a lot of the references to bands and other eighties related topics.
Skloot did a great job mixing scientific fact with the unknown (until now) human story behind one of the greatest finds in medicine.
I found the book slow and boring, but there were others in my club that could do nothing but rave about it.
A very insightful look into a piece of history I never knew about.
