My Reviews
This book was not what I expected, but...I enjoyed it. It was alittle slow to start but to me, worth the time. I eventually was pulled in to wanting to know more, wanting to see what would happen to these characters. I loved Fenno, but not at first..I questioned who he was and what he was about but I ended up just loving him. I laughed and cried. The ending kind of left me flat...but overall, I liked. Happy Reading!
These people have some real problems, very dark problems. But the way it was written I became addicted to the main character. Also kudos to the writer for putting in the hilarious bits of comedy to lighten the dark areas. The ending was tremendous..its worth the read! I could totally see Brad Pitt as Tyler!
This book did in fact remind me of "angela's ashes" and "a tree grows in brooklyn", I loved it very much, very touching and inspiring. It was crazy at times, and sad. When finishing the book I felt like I could reach out and touch every character, this being a memoir was just amazing. Such strong children to grow up and be so successful in their own lives.
This book was adventurous to me, not typical mind you but adventurous. These four people may start out dismal but do not end up that way. For such a dark subject, it turned out to be quite funny. I laughed out loud several times in part three of this book. It's like they all just wanted a clean slate...and who dosen't want that every now and again.
This book is inspiring. It was an easy read and I liked how it floated between the "two" of her. (I don't want to give anything away here) The story grew as time went on and you could love all the quirks of her family and friends. And in the end for her, there was not much difference between "family" and "friends" which in most peoples lives this is true.
I think you'll like this book, it is a compilation of short stories all intertwined with Olive and her husband Henry. It took you to every dilemma out there. Olive in all her gruff was still loveable. She might have been that person you dodged when you saw her coming but she was human. She still hurt, she still had desires and after a long life still had life in her. Some of the subjects were not uplifting but I still felt it an adventure to go from one story to the next and fun at times. Very interesting to see where Olive came into play. But "yikes"...don't put it down, you will enjoy.
If you have a sweet tooth, you will love this book! Josey is a great character and while she goes through quite a bit she does so smiling. This book really picks up toward the end and I felt it was fun and adventurous for sure and some of the smaller characters bring fullness to the book...enjoy!
Once you start reading you dont want to put it down until it is done. The girls relationships change over the course of time and its hard to choose sides sometimes and to have your own bearings you want to choose...but its not always right. This story with tug and pull you in different directions but you will most surely have a soft place to land.
I loved this book. What a great job this writer did in "a dogs point of view"...wow! The many lives and jobs this dog lived learned and endured...what a special dog. I look at my dog in a whole new light. The depth also in this book was incredible. Very impressive. It gave a true undertanding of how a dog can know more about their owner then most people. Alot of it rang true to me,(an owner of dogs for as long as I can remember). If you are a dog lover...do not pass up on this book...you will not be let down...it'll make your tail wag!
This book is very dramatic, and envelopes you right into what it is like to be a young girl in Haiti. After reading the first two thirds of the book, I really wanted to know what kind of life Sophie would make for herself. What she would do. I wanted nothing but the best for her, she had alot to carry for such a young girl...but proud to say...she did it! This book will grip you and you will cheer for Sophie like you would a friend.
The main character Lucy goes through a lot in this book, but it kinda mimics the way "in real Life"...when trouble comes knocking..sometimes it knocks the door down. What i liked was that lucy just kept moving forward..until she couldnt anymore..lol...she does make leaps and bounds in the afterlife. You will enjoy..it is fun and adventurous.
The women in this book are wonderful, relatible and fun. The span of over thirty years is remarkable. You'll dig right in and your head will spin..who's doin what now? and how will they help each other next?..and what crazy thing will happen?...its a very fun adventure to go on...so be inspired by a great book club and i know it has inspired our book club to last forever!!!
CeeCee is endearing, although i was wondering when CeeCee was going to start her new life (as a young girl), going to school and making friends..but as i read on i realized the women in this book had to indeed "save"..CeeCee and prepare her for life before she could actually start living life as a young girl...the time does come for her but not without growing enormously from all the wonderful women who touched her life!
I tried really hard to like this book. I picked this book for my book club. I couldnt connect to the main character, the only person with any wit was audreys mom...she brought a spark of humor to this novel. I needed the writer to take me to all the places/scenes that she went to instead of "telling" me about them.. and make me go through what audrey went through instead of her "telling" me. It just wasnt written in the style that i am used to reading. Instead of getting the meat and potates, I got the bones.
This is a dark read, I will say that the author tackled this with much thought. Alot of depth went into the writing and the deep dark places of the main character. I quess it was a tough read..but i couldnt put it down towards the end just to see what in the heck she was gonna do. Every bit of it was a "tough call"...or a "Hard Day".
I liked this book ok, some of the side characters were more liked than the main characters to me. They came to life easier than the main characters. This was an easy read, and a little up lifting because things turn around for more that just one person in this book and i think a lot of lessons learned. Could of had more depth to make for better discussion. The whole time reading this i never thought "what is the secret?" but there is one!
These girls are great! This book is filled with surprises for everyone! By the time i reached the section in this book that was the actual divorce party....I couldn't wait! I was like bring it on! I couldn't wait to see gwen's plan come together. I was not real thrilled with the ending, but over all it was a good read. If your hosting a party in the Hamptons, ladies keep an eye on your caterer!
This book was funny and off beat, brought a sense of real togetherness no matter how messed up things could get. Real life situations arise and are delt with by all three sisters whether they wanted to or not. I cried and laughed and laughed again..it was a triple dose of fun. So enjoy and make a wish, and if those three sisters had anything to do with it, it very well may come true!
This book was a wild ride, the main character "Ellen" was great. She took you on an adventure and made you question yourself..."What would you do?"...Things really pick up towards the middle of the book and get really interesting. If you have kids you can really appreciate what she goes through. Great Job to the Author! Look, Look, Look...and Look again!
This book is alittle difficult, the mother..needs help...and toward the end i grew to like the daughter...but by then ..TOO LATE!!!! Frustration comes to mind. Our book club pretty much disliked the book. The author made things drag out a bit, and the ending left you a bit unsatisfied. So wether you are sleepwalking in dayligt or not it is time to WAKE UP!!! Don't let this be your life!
This book was fun and surprising. The main character was a rock. Very strong and protective of her family. Expect some "gotcha" moments which will make you tear through to the end of the book. The author drags some things out alittle bit but the ending is worth it. Enjoy
...and there goes the bride! This book was alot of fun and easy to read. All you single ladies..ask yourself "would you do it?"..My book club was willing, but being single is difficult..but is it you??? ..or him??? This book makes you ask yourself some hard questions, but when love is on the line its hard to say no!
The sand is in my toes, because i went to every beach these two ladies did. I was right there for every converstaion..good or bad. These two friends loved and hated each other at many different times through out the book. I love how it showed that friendships and life are not alway perfect. I hated for the book to end just like Cee Cee knew the letters from Bertie would be no more. Well written and much enjoyed by me!
This book yet made for children, sure inspired our book club. Our host wanted to read a classic for our two year anniversay and this was just great. I myself had never read it and enjoyed it along with the illustration as well. I felt joy when the characters felt joy, i felt sad when they felt sad. It was very moving, fun and joyous to see the story play out like it did.
Whether you read Jane Austen or Not...read this book. I did see the movie before i even knew it was a book and i did enjoy the movie more than the book which is unusual. Having watched the movie helped me identify with the charachters in the book. I love all the charachters in the book, it was a little slow to start but worth finishing...some clever things were in the book and not the movie! So enjoy!
First this book was hard to find, so im not so sure its good for clubs, with that said it is a must read. Really good book and good account of the murders in Amityville All i can say is wow! It is dark because it goes into the mind of the son who killed his entire family. It also sheds light into the prosecution and how difficult there job really is. So settle in and leave the lights on...
This was a great read, and wonderful for bookclubs at anytime...i was facinated with the story and moved by the meaning behind it. It was not what i thought when i purchased it and it did surprise me in a good way.
I loved the main character Elphaba, i wanted to be her for halloween...she was just great overall and i actually wanted more for her in the book to just accomplish something great..because she was great..they didnt give it to her, it was a little difficult to read but definitely worth the effort.
