Though I felt Jack's character was a little unbelievable in the beginning, I slowly became attached to him and his story. As I began to get a closer glimpse at the relationship between Jack and his mother, it was easier to accept his rather stunning vocabulary despite his extreme grammatical shortcomings. I thought her characterization of Jack in the second half of the novel was absolutely brilliant...close attention to detail, that really allowed me to get invested in the child's explorations, discoveries, and developments.
