My Reviews
Although some could appreciate the difficulty of life situations presented in this book, the lack of emotion expressed and the absense of human connections made this book difficult to read and gave a number of the readers a feeling of pointlessness. Most of our club did not care to finish reading the book.
We decided to do it as 'reader's theatre'and we had a blast!!!
I felt the second half of the book moved much better once we were allowed to see the story develop from outside of Monk. Maybe a little less hand holding on the conclusion, but an enjoyable read.
Beautifully written. From the first page to the last the emotions are palpable. I just finished the book last night and I am already planning to read it again. It inspires a 'second kind of hope' that you may have never realized was there.
a lovely version of Esther's story. I really enjoyed this book.
Laugh out loud funny!! Makes me consider the idea....almost!!
This book is a wonderful history book and very informative. It is one that I will keep on the shelf to read over and for the kids to read when they are older however, it really didn't suit us as a book for book club.
Many of us in our book club are thankful for the advances that medical science has made due to these cells, yet feel sadness for what Henrietta herself went through.
