My Reviews
Our book club read this in December. It's a sweet book, and an easy read for an otherwise very busy month. The moral of the story is right on target, but there are a few elements that are very unrealistic...such as Jason's quick transformation.
Our group really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately the bulk of the book... chapter after chapter... focused on the treatment of Dominique during her gymnastic training, which should be considered child abuse! We thought the book would focus more on the relationships with her sister, and family as a whole, after she discovered that she had a sister.
Bottom line, this book missed some great opportunities to delve into various relationship aspects of her life. In the end it seemed like a self indulgent attempt to point the finger at those who mistreated her.
