My Reviews
This book was a disappointment. I truly loved The Time Traveler's Wife and was ready for a similar experience. Boy, was I ever blindsided. I kept reading, looking for some sort of point to all of the madness, but I could never find it. The story was downright nauseating at best. The only character I could find any sympathy with was Martin.
This book was difficult to read at times. It seemed to me to be every person's worst nightmare, but I feel like I might be a better person for reading it, like I might have a better understanding for what a person with alzheimer's might be feeling. It is a horrible lonely disease, and I was amazed by the way the writer was able to capture the feelings of Alice and make the reader walk in her shoes. It was brilliant!
I thought this book fell short of all the hype. It was interesting in some parts--can't imagine not knowing about the outside world, and I thought the writer did a fairly good job of keeping Jack in character. However, it just was not that memorable of a book for me. I was expecting so much more.
