The book is not an easy read, as every sentence is so knowledge-rich that you have to seriously concentrate while reading. It does, however, bring to light the truth about a woman we have all heard of, but actually know little about. I felt inspired by Cleopatra's skills, innovation, courage, devotion and leadership ability.
A book club reading about a book club...could have been strange, but I loved seeing how the structure of the book club gave this group of women (+ Grant) a format for their friendships and a way to share who they really were. As they built their "community" on the cul de sac, they grew individually and together. It was a great read and helped us see how we are building community here too.
Reading about another book club (Literary Society!) was fun - and we learned some history! The format - letters - made the book interesting and easy to read. Everyone in our club really liked it!
