My Reviews
Having read prior reviews I was prepared for the slow start...For me page 60 was the turning point and I did not want to put it down. I have already bought the second book and can't wait to get it started.
There is always a darkness in Pat Conroy's books, but the stories while sad are real to events both past and present. This like the others I have read have a positive ending to some horrific events.
Several members of our club were quite distrubed by this book, as it came very close to their own hearts. While I found it tragic for the children I admired so much how the three oldest pulled themselves together and supported each other and came out on the otherside as very strong individuals.
Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, that description totally fit our bookclubs overall review of this book. Personally, I hated the book and only completed it because of bookclub. I seriously doubt that this woman actually learned anything.
