My Reviews
Most of our club agreed that the ending was not worth it. The rest didn't like any of it at all. The first half or so was engrossing and it was good to learn so much about how people lived then, but after that, I just zoomed through, not really caring. It got really predictable, and I started resenting how much time I'd already put in.
I wasn't really sure how to rate this one. Most of us enjoyed it, but there really wasn't much of a discussion, and we're usually quite a lively group!
It wasn't just that we all loved it, we had a really great discussion about the characters, the times and the circus!
Well written, but.
We all learned so much from this book about another culture that we really should know more about. It was also written extremely well, engrossing and made for a great discussion.
A few of us didn't even finish this one. We never felt the author made a good enough case for the marriage, so when there were problems, we didn't care or see the point. We also felt the characters were pretty predictable.
This is the kind of book that makes you learn more about the other members in your group, even if you've been together for a while. We got into a great discussion of our dreams, fears while sampling the author's martini recipes!
Most of us couldn't finish it. Started out funny, and we learned about Mennonites, but it quickly became all the same, too much jumping around and didn't seem to be going anywhere.
