My Reviews
A ' must read'. Could not put this down.
This book was recommended to me by a friend so I suggested to our book club that we read this. I am so glad we took a chance on it. This was a refreshing read that was hard to put down. There are several main characters in the book and all of them are fascinating in their own right. I didn't love all of the characters immediately( disliked Amy!)but the more I read, the more I warmed to them. Kate Racculia allows the characters to advance the story from their points of view, but she has managed to mesh their individual recollections in to a story that flows beautifully. Once you're hooked, you can't put it down.
I LOVED the entire concept of the plot ~the rippling effect one unsent postcard could have on the lives of so many. Secrets of the past unfold, some predictable, some very unexpected. By the end of the book the characters seemed like old friends and you are positive you have stayed in the Darby-Jones boarding house in a past life. Racculia's writing style is honest and I very much enjoyed this whimsical tale with it's quirky characters. An amazing debut novel and having been fortunate enough to meet the author in person( who is a delightful young woman) I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.
